Lower East Side

The Lower East Side was once known as an immigrant neighborhood but has undergone major gentrification in recent years, as funky shops, bars and restaurants opened in the neighborhood. Clinton Street and Orchard Street have seen upscale development change the neighborhood. Music venues such as the Bowery Ballroom, Crash Mansion and Mercury Lounge fill the need for live entertainment. There are also bars that offer performance space, such as Pianos on Ludlow Street and Arlene's Grocery on Stanton Street.
